Of the twelve applications examined, three stand out for ease of use, flexibility and reliability- Reg Easy, RegCure and Registry Mechanic.

Registry Cleaners all have the same basic features as they all do the same basic job – to ‘clean’ the registry.  All should have the ability to remove dead files and all should backup files before the cleaning process in case something goes wrong.

Some registry cleaners have advanced features such as start-up managers (controlling which applications start when your PC is loaded), and registry defragmenters.

Ease of use is an important factor.  Some Registry Cleaners are unnecessarily complicated, so unless you are an advanced user, it may be wise to choose a Registry Cleaner which is easy to use. If you are looking for a feature-rich application, include a scheduler, the option of manual or auto scan, and customer support by email or telephone.  It is also important to check that your Windows Platform is supported; Windows 7 users may find their choices limited for a while.

In conclusion, ensure that the registry cleaner you choose does the job you want it to do. If you bear the above points in mind, you should be able to find the right registry cleaner for your needs.
